changing oil on a C280 1996
Stupid question but... I do not have a lift at home so...... if i buy those ramps and drive the front end up can I change the oil with the car at an angle or should i do it flat. Any suggestions would be appreciated as my fat butt is too big to fit under the car without it being raised.
any tricks to changing oil in a C280? - first time here. 8 quarts? My truck requires drain crankcase first , refill and then replace filter - to prevent losing prime in the oil pump. Good place to buy the filters? thanks |
curious. what type of truck requires the proceedure you outlined? thank you.

land rover discovery - mechanic told me i could get away with a few minutes but not let it sit overnight
- the manual describes exactly as i did above so... not going to take a chance |
I would use topsider to change oil .... with topsider you don't have to get under the car .....

It's 7 1/2 quarts of oil. You can do the change on ramps if you want to.
It's all pretty straightforward stuff. The oil filter you get to from on top though, it's on the drivers side of the engine in front of the firewall. Gilly ps(OH, OK, it's 7 2/5 quarts, not 7 1/2:rolleyes: ) |
7.4 Quarts to refill it. To empty it losen the filter cap one turn then drain it from the plug, when its done dripping remove the filter from the top and replace it. Make sure to have the open end of the filter (one end is plugged on MANN filters) facing down. Replace the rubber seal around the filter cap and the copper washer around the drain plug. I also suggest getting the MB filter wrench, it makes the filter cap simple to remove, as its in a tight spot. Make sure everythings tight, and your done.
