Overheating
 

I need some help with my current situation.

I have a 1989 300E with around 193,000 miles on it. I have recently run into a problem with the car overheating.

This is what happened the other day. I got in the car and started to drive it and within probably 5 miles the car started to increase in temperature. In an attempt to cool it down I turned on the heat in the car to blow hot air and all it did was blow cool air.

So, I immediately turned around and parked my car before the temp went up too high. When I did pull over and parked the car I noticed that there was antifreeze flowing out of my car from the radiator reserve tank out of the overflow hose.

I would greatly appreciate any insight into this problem.

that your aux fan and clutch fan working? For a start, check if the fuses for the fans in the fusebox are OK.

Check the fuses in the relays for the fans also

Sounds as if the thermostat might have jammed in the closed position. Unusual, but has been known to happen.

If you start the engine ane let it warm up, does the radiator stay cold all the way to overheat?

I know that my aux fan is working and I believe that my clutch fan is working.

Clutch fan is located right behind radiator, right?

Hi, Ryan,

this sounds like a system that is not holding the pressure anymore. Although I don't know your car, I would replace the cap on the reservoir first. Get the right cap from MB.

I just had this happen to my car. After a little investigation I found that no fluid was getting to the radaitor and the thermostat was jammed closed. I replaced it ($14.95) along with the pressure cap just to make sure and it seemed to do the trick.
