Options to rebuild my 500E tranny
The Shop has given me the following options
Option 1= Used 500E Tranny ~$1250( 1 yr warranty) Cost to me $0(Wynn warranty covers all) Option 2 = Rebuild my Tranny to spec ~$1300( 1 yr warranty) Cost to me $0(Wynn warranty covers all) Option 3 = Rebuild my tranny to "Super"(mod.clutch packs, planetary's etc) =~$2300(they bacically only use the case)( 1 yr warranty) Cost to me $1200(Wynn is covering $1300 for Tranny RB) Option 4= Factory rebuild bought from MB ~$2450(2yr-24Kmi warr) Should already include all upgrades/modification to "super" Cost to me $1200(Wynn is covering $1300 for Tranny RB) Help me out here guys. Its my $$. I need a little guidance here. Which way makes the most sense Last edited by aldedmon; 07-16-2003 at 09:32 PM. |

Not bad options -- each carries a warranty. I would definitely cross off Options 3. It has no advantage over Option 4. Cross off Option 2 unless you have a good feeling on who is doing the rebuild. I would go with factory over somebody else's rebuild any day.
I guess it depends on the mileage and age of the used tranny and whether you can trust what they say. Salvage operators have a habit of saying 50,000 miles for any part they sell you. At only 70,000 miles it seems a quality repair is in order.

$2250 with MBCA discount
I went to the newest MB dealership here in Houston and got a quote/ printout for $2250 for the factory rebuilt tranny. I'm going to go that route. Thanks to all who read/thought /shared
