Light Steering Wheel Feel
Folks,
Due to steering wheel sqeuaking, the dealer replaced the steering rack on my 2001 E430. Now the steering feels noticeably "lighter" with alot more play than before and it is about 1 inch off center. The alignment seems to be fine. Tire pressure is fine. Do you have any ideas? Thanks! Gunnar |

Sounds like they did a real sloppy job - if none of these current problems existed before. I.e. if the old steering was on-center with no slop, the new should not be worse.

Sloppy work is the answer.
Steering racks or boxes are typically adjustable for play. Often, the steering wheel will need to be 'remounted' on center after major service like this. [I cannot offer any expertise on your particular model]

So do you recommend I take it back to the dealer to fix? Is this a minor job to recenter the steering wheel and adjust the feel?
Thanks! |

Take it back.
They clearly skipped the 'test drive at end' step.
