Zerex G-05
Well all, I just received a reply from the Ashland corp. concerning their new G-05 Anti-Freeze that is available at most AutoZones. And their answer is just as I suspected, it is the same exact formula that Mercedes has been selling for several years now.
That answers that question to all who are thinking about using it because it's a little less expensive and it's available at most AutoZones now. Here's their quote: "This is the same type of formulation Mercedes has been using for several years now". Just FYI, Dale |

Zerex G-05 and G-48 are Mercedes-approved
The list of acceptable coolants from DCAG now includes Valvoline's Zerex G-05 and G48 coolants, alongside the MB part number coolant. There is one other US approved manufacturer, but I don't recall offhand the name.

Where to Buy Zerex G-05?
I still cannot find the Valvoline Zerex G-05 anywhere. The Valvoline website lists Wal-Mart, Advance Auto and Pep Boys as Valvoline retailers, but they seem to only carry their oil products.
I really would like an alternative to the MB $15-$18 (e.g. Mercedesshop: $10 +$8 shipping) per gallon cost. Tom |

They have pictures of it in gallons but all I have been able to get it in is 55gal drums at about 4.50 a gallon. MB list price is only a little over 10 so you might work on your sources.

Zerex
Maybe I'll just have to schedule a trip to my brother's in Tampa and make a pit stop with a gallon jug in Gainesville

Not all WEB providers charge $8 - $10 a gallon to ship coolant. If you order other items, you might be surprised that the freight cost does not go up when buying MB coolant.
The following site has in my opinion, the best overall parts prices for OEM quality parts. I've done business with them numerous times and have always been pleased with the outcome. http://www.aplusparts.com |
