No mortgage needed.
Let's say you need to replace. First, get pull the wood cover off and get the model number of the unit. Then check the junk-yards. I purchases a working replacement for $50+ship using www.car-parts.com. Since you are in Maryland, you will find at least a dozen there available for $125 or less. |
The buttons are sticky. On the 300TE, one of the POs children appearantly opened a 2-liter bottle of ginger ale in the car after dropping it -- there is sticky stuff everywhere and I can smell ginger ale when I remove the wood console trim.
One of the things that got sprayed is the pushbutton unit, and you have to hold the buttons down to get it to change modes -- the button for "normal" and "economy" both stick, so when you change to something else, you have to hold the other button down until those pop out. You can take it apart and spray some contact cleaner (the alcohol based ones ONLY, please, not carb cleaner, it will melt everything!) and see if that cures the problem. Otherwise, it's a replacement PBCU, new or used. Peter |
I took mine apart and fixed it. Has something to do with the temp setting wheel if I recall correctly. They can be fixed. Maybe do a search. I believe I did a post or two on how to repair the unit.

Solution to same problem
DO NOT SHOUT. It is rude and offensive.
Remove the CCU (Climate Control Unit), and resolder all button connections to circuit board. Do a search, all instructions have been posted many times. Good Luck, and post the success story. |
