the 1994 - 200 Mercedes Benz C280 engine overheating problems
 

I´m having problems in my shop concerning the 104 engine in the 1994-2000 MB C280. It keep leaking oil in thru the head gasket. I have used different brands of head gaskets like Goetze, Febi, Victor Reinz, all with the ref. # 104 010 3220, (you can check out the ref. # to see that it´s correct) but they keep letting oil leak when the engine gets hot. It´s not a torque issue because the head gasket kit comes with the recomended torque measures. Also, I have to add that this is not an isolated incident, my other colleagues who are in the same business as I am, have the exact same trouble with this engine. We need technical help on this. I have two C280´s in my shop with the same problem right now, pls help.

I was lucky enough not to buy a 1994 c280, because it turned out that most 1994-1996 c280's with inline 6 cylinder engines
have oil leak problems at the head gasket. I believe that replacing the head gasket only is not good enough. You need to send the head to some specialty shops to check/fix for straightness. Otherwise, a new head gasket would not do anything good for a curved head mating surface.

Absolutely, I forgot to mentioned that, I have send the heads to two special rectification shops (the best in Panama) but they have come up with nothing, they even brought a specialist from Costa Rica to check the heads. My colleague who has his shop in front of me has a S320 which he has put down the engine 4 times, and yes you are right when you say that oil leaks from the gaskets, it even mixes with coolant, that´s exactly what is going on with our engines.

You might want to inspect the head bolts. those are a strech shank style and have a max allowable length.
If the heads have been on/off more than twice, you will need
new head bolts.
The torque sequence is :
stage 1 55nm
stage 2 90deg angle of rotation.
stage 3 wait 10 minutes
stage 4 90deg angle of rotation.

There is a specific pattern to torquing the bolts.
Start from the middle and work outwards alterntaing sides
as you go.

P.S. A very thin wipe of loctite 5900 sealant from your MB center
applied to both sides of the headgasket around each oil pressure galley and drain return can do wonders.
