I took out my clutch fan where the fan blade is attached and I saw a small "green" round rubber gasket with a "pin" in the center. This covered a small pinhole.

Some tell me that instead of buying a new clutch fan I could just buy "silicone oil" and inject it to the "clutch fan". Is this the purpose of the small pinhole I saw?

Thanks!

Francis

Nope. There is a bimetal element in there as well. Where would you find the right formulation for the oil. I am not aware of any way to refill those clutches. And what caused the oil to leak out? Can you find and fix the leak. Nope. This is a critical cooling component. Replace it..

If you have a leak it is likely the bearing seal which mean you will need to replace the bearing too which on most small fans on cars is next to impossible. But, I have repaired the same thing on a truck by replacing the bearing and I was able to round up some silicon fluid. It has worked now for 250k. The visosity of the fluid is critical. If you want some fun take it apart and try to fix it. Nothing to loose, have to buy a new one anyway.
