Gentlemen, the speedometer (and odometer) stopped working on my '86 300E today. I did a quick search on the topic but did not find the answer. I did check the cable by pulling the instumentpanel forward, diconnecting the cable and checking the bowden for movement while driving on the highway (very light traffic). I could feel the cable spinning so I am assuming that the speedometer is the culprit here. My question is can I repair it myself or is it definitely a pro job? I will take the instument panel apart tomorrow and would like to know if I should bother with it (any likelihood of succes?) at all or should I take it straight to the repair shop.
Thanks for your advice. Alex [This message has been edited by dacia (edited 04-13-2000).] |
Take this one to the repair shop...Let them have the liability of the diagnosis. Some times the cable will turn under no load even when broken. The plastic gears could be the culprit (inside the tranny)
