My '85 300D get the troublesome water in the rear passenger foot area when ever it rains. The results of the archive search mentioned quite a few times that the sunroof drains are probably plugged. Where exactly are the drains located and how do I go about clearing them out? Benzmac mentioned that all you have to do is blow them out. How do I assure that by blowing them out, that they will be cleared all the way?
Thanks fellas. HAPPY EASTER!!! ------------------ FrankieZ 84 500SEL EURO 87K 85 300D 267K (and still goin' strong) |

Hey Frank!
Look under the car behind the rear axle, next to the wheelwell. The drains will be pretty much inline with the left and right side of the sunroof. Once you look under there, you'll see em. Don't know about 'blowing' them out...I'd be tempted to stick some wire up there and see what you get. -Larry ------------------ 03/83 300D 184k 07/73 280 160k |

Frankie,
I posted a similar question a few months ago, after living with the problem for years. I thought I had tried everything there was to try. I experienced this with two different 123 sedans. Someone told me to clean out the drains below the hood hinges, that's right the hood hinges. There are drains there that drain under a brace toward the engine compartment. Then there are drains just inside that brace, between the firewall and the wheelwells. I used a piece of bailing wire (for city folks, I'll bet that a coat hanger will substitute for bailing wire) to clean out both these drains. I have had some very hard rains since, and have had no more problems. I know it sounds bizzarre, but it worked for me. I need to search back, find the post and thank the person that answered. Good luck, ------------------ Larry Bible '84 Euro 240D, 516K miles '88 300E 5 Speed '81 300D Daughter's Car Over 800,000 miles in Mercedes automobiles |
