What is this part on a Euro 1991 190e 1.8 RHD?
Opened up the passenger carpet while doing an amp install and found this red connector embedded into a removable plate in the footwell area.
It seems to come from the side but goes nowhere. When the plate is removed, there are no wires coming out from the connector.Looks like a port of some kind. On the connector (it's a she - female), it has 4 pins labelled 1 to 4. Only pin 1 and pin 4 (damn, i forgot) have metal contacts in them. Both pin 1 and pin 4 measure 2.9 volts to ground with a warm engine. Any idea what it is? |

The connector has a cover that flips open to reveal 4 pins...

When the plate to which the connector is attached is pulled off, look behind and find no wires coming out from rear of connector; like it's a test port of some kind...

In the last photo, there is a thick black insulation (with wires in it) that goes horizontall across the footwell, then exits the car near the tranny tunnel thru' a rubber grommet.
Is this the O2 sensor wiring? Thanks a heap in advance. |

Anyone?
I figure it's tough coz only the Brit and Aussie 190Es are similar to mine. |

In the '91 190E 2.3 US model, the passenger footwell is where the factory alarm module and I believe the audio amp reside. In ours, neither option was installed, so there is simply a plug, mounting pemnuts, and a cover plate to hide it. I don't recall if it is similar.

The factory amp for the door woofers is located behind the right rear panel in the trunk. The passenger side footwell holds the factory alarm (if so optioned) if not optioned, there will not be a plug there. There is also another computer mounted there, not exactly sure what it is, but it looks like the ABS computer

azhari,
are you sure your car has a catalytic converter?-if so,then the o2 sensor is located underneath the car on the the exhaust-from memory it is near the front section of the exhaust-you would need to get under the car to locate it or get it onto a ramp, also look at page 4B.10-section 64 TO 70 of the haynes manual for 190e cars. hope this helps. i haven,t looked under the front carpets to see if i have a similar setup to yours ,when i do i will let you know. |

Near the front section; as in at the downpipe or after the downpipe below the driver's seat?
My parts guy checked out my VIN and confirmed that it has a cat/ox sensor. Have to look harder!!! But it would really help to know specifically where to look... Thanks, dude. |

Checked the Haynes manual and it states on later models, the connection to the ox sensor can be found in the drivers side footwell under carpet.
On the US spec cars, it' son the pass side. Now, i've stripped both carpets. On the pass side, there is a cable going into a grommet ot the tranny tunnel (see photo) but it goes to the tranny! Driver side footwell, can only see kickdown switch and wiring. Arrrghhh! |
