DYI yellow dogs in DEPO euro headlights w124

I have been searching for a good deal on a set of used euro headlights, but while growing impatient, I picked up a set of depos(I know the quality isn’t as good as hella or Bosch)
Installation went easy, but I was disappointed when I found that the depo fog lights were not yellow, kind of a silly thing but I really liked the look of the yellow fogs.
So I took the headlight apart and found this

(This is the depo on the right and a us spec on the left)
The bulb holder didn’t have the fingers to hold the yellow bulb cover, but this is an easy fix, and here is how.
(This May work on Bosch/hella euro lights but I don’t know 100%)

-start by taking apart the head lights

Gently pry these tabs up, there are 4 around the lense

Set the glass in a safe spot

-gently pry the tabs holding the fog light reflector in
Unplug the wires and remove fully from headlight assembly

-I had already thrown out my old headlights so I picked these fog lights from a 190e at the junk yard

Clearly these two are different sizes, I’m unsure if the stock w124 reflectors will pop in at this point, but I’m gonna assume not and keep going forward

Both use h3 bulbs, and upon inspection the bulb holders are the same diameter



-gently pry the bent over tabs from the center holding the bulb holder to the reflector

Once bent straight, the bulb holder with pop out of the reflector(May take a tab bit of pressure)


-do the same to the parts fog light




-place this bulb holder in the depo reflector(you can leave the yellow glass on, its very fragile so be careful)
It needs to go in clocked the correct direction, you can tell when it’s right when it sits flush against the reflector


-bend holder tabs back over securing the bulb holder in place



-put headlight back together



-put the glass back on top, make sure tabs are clicked down

-reinstall the headlight



Hope this helps anyone who has wondered how to get the yellow fogs in their aftermarket headlights.
If you still have your original US headlights, this modification cost nothing, if not, this shouldn’t cost more then $20 (depending what the yard charges you for the donor fog lights

Thanx ~ this was a good little read through .

I was very disappointed with the W123 DEPO Euro lamps, no provision for headlamp adjustment was in them .
