Removing Rear Bumper Cover

On my 94 E420, the rear bumper cover has a plastic/chrome covered strip along the top side. Looking at the reflection, I can see the condition of the metal just above it... along the trunk line. I see a bit of rust under one corner that I'd like to take care of.

Anyone know how I can remove the bumper cover in order to get to that spot?

Also, any recommendations of what to use to clean up the spot (it's no more that the size of a dime).

Thanks!

Willy,

There are 6 bolts: four on the back edge (license plate side) of the trunk, just above the carpet line, are plainly visible. The other two -- one under each tail light are accessible after you remove the back of the tail light, as you would to change bulbs, then peel back the fabric liner.

My understanding is that the bumper then slides back and out.

Thanks!

I'll look further tomorrow.

Oops - with the rear bumper off and in the car, I realize I made a mistake.

There are actually 8 bolts: Two on the back, one under each tail light, and two each further forward on the bumper ends in each wheel well. You have to remove the carpet/lining entirely to get those.

The whole bumper will drop off after pulling the two ends out and off of their bolts.
