JEB,
Jim Smith is right about this one. I have no Idea if it only applies to the original owner however. The cause is from the use of dino oil and changing it at the 10,000 to 12,000 mile or more intervals that the FSS system was giving. The oil rings stuck to the pistons and allowed them to excessively consume oil. I personally rebuilt at least 50 of the M112 engines for this problem. Most of them were in the 163 chassis (ML) but some were in others like the 210 you are experiencing this with. This was not necessarily the fault of the owner. The dealers were installing dino oil in them until this problem came up and Mom Benz said "whoops". Then they started using Mobil 1. We tried multiple engine flushes and nothing worked except to replace the piston rings. Sometimes we had to install blocks fitted with pistons due to gouges in the cylinder walls. Good Luck Brian

Thanks Guys,
We are doing a leakdown test today - we will see what the problem is - but I suspect it is the FSS problem. When we changed the oil it looked awfully dirty. I hope it is not so severe that the that it needs new rings. We will see. I will let you know. Jeb |

I am experiencing this issue with the 05 E320 I recently purchased and am at the point of trying to find a used engine or pulling the engine and install new rings/valve guides and seals. Has anyone else experienced repairing one of these that has not had the proper oil put in it?

Jim, Is the engine sludged up or just high oil consumption?

Sludged up badly. I pulled the valve covers and cleaned all the crankcase vent passages and ports. It seems like it is letting oil accumulate in this area and now, with the ports cleaned up, sucking oil into the intake. Have not gotten far enough into it yet to determine why the oil seems to accumulate in this area. Anyone have any drawings or schematics of how oil is supposed to get back into the crankcase from the ccv section on top of the valve covers? I added some AutoRx to the crankcase in an attempt to clean things up. Whenever I floor it after idling for a short period of time it blows a bunch of oil out the exhaust. It is going to be interesting to see how well the AutoRx cleans it up.
This is my first time dealing with a sludge up engine.
