W123 & W126 Sunroof Drains
Where do the sunroof drains exit on the 123 & 126 sedans?
And if the drains are clogged, where does the water typically end up... the trunk? Rear floor boards? |

Sunroof Drains
Where are they and how do you get to them to blow them out. How difficult is the sunroof to remove. I have an 81 300SD.
Thanks in advance. bob |

All sun roofs eventually leak. There is no easy fix. At least be assured that the sun roofs on a MB are at least as good as a Ford or Chevy. Next time you buy a car, don't check off the sun roof option.

Jay, thanks very much, I will bookmark this thread and the site. I will be getting into the Wagoneer in a week or two. It belonged to a friend and has some engine problems which might be no more that a timing chain, which seems to be shot and numerous engine and tranny leaks that I have to track down. The body and a lot of other stuff on it are very good though, it has about 180k on it. Seems to be worth the $87.50 that I have invested in it so far....thanks again. Will be in touch.

Oops.. I see you have a GRAND Wagoneer.. Different beast altogether.. I have the Cherokee (XJ) body stlye..
The 4.0 I6 engines RARELY have timing chain issues, if that's what you hve.. Most will go way past 200k miles.. |

I have checked out my sunroof drains....
I inspected the holes for my sunroof drains on my '85 300d (when I still owned it). I poured some water in slowly into the holes. The rear holes drained behind the rear window. There is a trim piece that kinda looks like a fin. I couldn't see the exact exit hole but the water came out freely and drained nicely.
I don't remember exactly where the front holes drained to. I was trying to find the source of my dreaded rear passenger footwell flood. The sunroof drains were not clogged as afar as I saw cuz I didnt get any water in the footwell when I tested these drains. Sorry, I couldn't be of more help.

Thank you Fz..I suspect drain problems because my headliner is filling up with water during a rain. I guees I may need to disassemble things to find the rear drains.
Jay, I have the 360 V8 Grand Wagoneer. The light tank..LOL almost feel as though I should have a gun turret mounted on the roof.

One thing you can do is buy a can of that compressed air that you get for computer keyboards, etc. Get some very small diameter hose that fits perfectly on the straw that you get with the can of air and hand feed the tube down the drain. Give the hose a good shot of air as your feeding it down the drain. This compressed air is very high pressure and should dislodge or blow out whatever may be clogging it up.
Good luck.
