Mixing 0w40 and 0w30

I had to do my own oil change, my FSS counter reached 0 yesterday and my dealer can't take me untill Aug. 20th. Nuf said. The local Advan. Auto only had 4 quarts of 0w40 and a bunch of 0w20, so i grabed the 4 quarts and head over to another place, no luck with 0w40 BUT they did have 0w30 (closer to 0w40 then 0w20). So I ended up having to mix 3.75 quarts or 0w40 with 2 quarts of 0w30 in my 1999 SLK230. Will I be ok for the next 20 days?

PS All oil used is Mobil 1.

although the 0W-30 is not mercedes approved, I can't possibly imagine you doing any harm in 20 days or 100 days for that matter. I wouldn't make a habit out of using the 0W-30 but for such a short time I think you can sleep easy.

By the way some Wal-Marts now carry the 0W-40 Mobil 1, only in the quart containers. I'm hoping to see it in the 5 quart containers soon, somehow I doubt that though.........

0W-30 isn't on the MBUSA approved list but is on the DB list from Germany! SO don't worry! Shouldn't cause any problem at all.

On MBUSA chart 0W-30 can be used any time that 5W-30 is used.

MANY new cars are using only 5W-20 oil year round, even in the hottest weather.

Just wondering, my owner's manual doesn't have the oil weight for a given temp listed(anywhere in it). I'm using 0w40 base on the what I read on various MB forum?

This may help you with oil recommendations.

The 0W-40 is an excellent year round oil pretty much irregardless of where you live.
