Hi all,

The plastic "guide" tab on one of my front turn signals recently snapped ('93 190) and the I'm certain I'll lose the assembly soon (been through this with every other MBZ I've owned at one point or another). SO, I must replace. Get this: my local MBZ dealer (Smythe European) wants $93 for the assembly, sans bulb and socket. Bekkers has it for $43. They also have the clear turn signals, which begs the question:

Knowing that these clear lenses are euro-spec and not DOT approved (thus not-legal), does anyone have experience with running this stuff resulting in fix-it tickets, general harassment or other? I'd hate to buy a set and become a really obvious (and FREQUENT) target. They just look sooo good...

Oh - and has anyone had luck with superglue or some other fix-it? I forgot to mention that my FIRST preference is to not spend the money at all.

Thanks for the feedback as always,
Matt

Don't know about glueing those suckers on but with regards to the clear lights, use amber bulbs and you should be OK. If you decide to be like some of these Honda kids I see in my 'hood and use blue, pink or clear bulbs then good luck.
My 2 cents worth thats all...

You should be OK with the amber bulbs. As long as they're not pink or whatever. I've seen a number of cars with the clear turn/markers and they all had valid inspection stickers. As to your choice of adhesive. I would recommend clear silicone. It holds real well, it's non-destructive to the plastic and it's flexible and when your ready to remove the lense, just push it out from the inside..

I don't know if it is a federal requirement, but in CA it is required that there be an orange reflector on each front side of the car. The last couple of years of W124 cars (I don't know about 190s) had a clear turn signal lens with an amber bulb, but there also was a vertical orange reflector at the rear part of the clear lens. These are $83 each at the MB dealership - If I change I will look for used parts.

Matt:

If your 1993 190E corner lens is the same as my 1986 190E (2.3-16V), then I "gots-what-you-needs", brah! I installed clear corners, Euro headlights, and smoked taillights recently. Besides my amber originals, I somehow ended up with a set of brand-new ambers. Heck, buy me breakfast at the Southern Kitchen in Los Gatos (across from Ferrari of Los Gatos), and I'll give you the blinker you need; really How's this Easter Sunday morning sound (4/23)? This way we can check out eachother's rides. Hopefully my front grill/frame will be back from Wheel Techniques by then -- they're painting it Pearl Black to match my body color -- my CAR'S body color, that is Let me know about this Sunday, then we can set up a time. Phil (aka: amgkid) -- if you read this you're welcome to join.

Mahalo!

Brian - will be down floating offshore at The Ranch all weekend. Haven't decided if I want to go with clear lamps or not so let's do get together and talk about it (I want to see your car). Mornings are good, weekdays okay by me too. Saturday 29th or Sunday 30th could be ideal...

Goin' to Las Vegas 4/28 - 4/30 (wife's 40th b'day), but I have the morning of the 28th (Friday) free to do breakfast, say 8:30 @ Southern Kitchen?

Sorry guys, I don't yet have a "generic" e-mail account to "air the laundry"

Let me know Matt.

I'm there. May be a "couple" minutes late. I wait with the kids at the bus stop, which usually picks 'em up by 8:50a. I'm near Bascom and Camden, so it should take me around 10-15 minutes to DTLG (Downtown Los Gatos). I just set up my *free* e-mail account "Brian MBZ" <brian16v@hotmail.com>. Try it out.
