W126 Climate Control temp wheel
Ok, just remember...there's no such thing as a dumb question. (So why do I feel this is?)
Does anyone know for sure what the "dot" switch positions at the far extremes (hot and cold) of the temperature control wheel set? I have looked relentlessly through my owner's manual and it does not say. My guess is it is either max cold or max hot, but it does not seem to make much difference whether I have the wheel spun to the coldest temp setting without rolling it into the "dot" position or whether I roll it "over the hump" into the dot position. I haven't ever found need to set the temp to full hot so I don't what that would do. Thanks |

When you "lock" the temp wheel to the min temp detent many things happen. The pushbutton ignores most temp sensor imputs, locks the fresh air doors shut & closes the heater valve completely. Also closes the defrost flaps completely. Except on bi-level.
In the heating mode max detent, the heater valve & fresh air doors remains WIDE open. So temp sensor imputs have no effect on the heat of the air comming out of the vents. In a normal mode the system should maintain temperature in the car with-in 2C deg of the desired temp after 8-10 minutes of operation at face level.

Ok, thank you very much. So I understand....these are extreme positions of the temperature wheel, allowing full hot or full cold air while ignoring temp sensor inputs.
