On the subject of broken catalytic converters, replace ALL the engine mounts -- you will greatly reduce engine vibration, and if you have a drumming noise and floorpan vibration on acceleration, the tranny mount is gone. Mounts are fairly easy on this car, access isn't too bad even if you have to work on the ground.

I do believe the engine flogging around could break up the catalyst, they aren't THAT tough!
