Blink Code Tester

Hi all:
Just wondering if anyone could help me make a blink code tester or tell me how to use a multimeter to achieve the same result. A sensor from my climate control system is bad, so I would like to test and see which one is the culprit. I read somewhere that I need to remove my climate control push button unit and then use a special mercedes socket box to hook up the blink code tester, but I do not want to buy an expensive mercedes part that I will only use once. How can I do the same thing without any special parts, or maybe even just my multimeter? Thanks so much.

Can someone please help me out here? I just want to see if I can fix my climate control problem easily by changing a broken sensor.
