Question 1983 300TD axel replacement

I have a 1983 300TD wagon with 200,000 + miles. I noticed vibration that is driveline related. Upon inspection of the rear drive lines, I noticed the boot on the rear end passenger side was baddly damaged. I looked it up in my Haines repair manual and it told me this is a repair that can not by a home mechanic due to the need for specialty tools. HELP!

Does anyone know if you have to replace both axels or just the one? Any information would be appreciated. Please respond. Thi is our only car. We are desperate!

You can just replace one and it is a pretty easy diy'er type of job. Do a search on here about it and you can find out alot of info.
