The car has 140,000 miles. rebuilt transmission at 110K. I had it in for a trans service at 137K, they also fixed a vacuum problem, now it slip when it shifts, not always, mostly under full throttle. I have been told that the modulator on the transmission can be adjusted. How do I do this. I don't want to bring it back to the shop that did it, as they just want to rebuild this transmission, eventhough it only has 30K on it....

When they fixed the vacuum problem, it probably just softened the shift. Turn in on the modulator about 1 to 2 turns. Good luck.

The modulator is on the side of the transmission (drivers side forward).
I recently wrote a lengthy description of the multiple adjustments on a 300SD. The situation is similar for the 190D. I wouldn't suggest playing with anything other than the modulator (it has distinct positions so it can easily be reset to original. The other adjustments can't be as easily retraced. ------------------ Steve Brotherton Owner 24 bay BSC Bosch Master, ASE master L1 26 years MB technician |
