I recently started leaking trans fluids and acceleration stalls. I was told it might be a bad converter.

Does the transmission make any funny whining or grinding noises? How fast is it losing fluid?

No, the only noise it makes is when it revs, it seem to not catch gears. The fluid is leaking constancely.

I hate to say it, but that doesn't sound like a torque convertor problem. Torque convertors have a really insignificant failure rate. Unless, the convertor itself is cracked. I would suspect a front seal or some failure of the pump. Where is the fluid leak showing itself? when you put the tranny in gear, does the engine over rev, does it show any signs of engaging at all? Does it work in the reverse position?

my transmission leaks fluid from what appears be at that shinny piece of plate (located at the driver side, just above the pan) where an allen wrench could be inserted. does anyone knows what that piece is? could it be a source of AFT leak? what is the fix? thanks

The "shiny" place you describe sounds like the neutral start switch. The hole that you describe is there to align the switch when it's replaced or serviced. If it's leaking there, it probably coming out around the selector shaft.
Sorry Joel, I meant this post for Cham. The above is meant for you. re the shiny place. ------------------ Jeff L 1987 300e 1989 300e 1987 BMW 325 [This message has been edited by jeffsr (edited 04-29-2000).] [This message has been edited by jeffsr (edited 04-29-2000).] |

The fluid is in the front of the vehicle, when I refill with trans fluid it runs great but the fluid quickly runs out This may last for afew days.

Get this fixed pronto. Your transmission is not going to tolerate much more of this. IT WILL FAIL. It sounds like a COOLING LINE OR THE RADIATOR if it is pooling in the front of the car. Either one of these repairs is a lot less expensive than transmission work.

cham: the cooling lines are easy fix. replace both sides at the same time. you can easily spot them - they are rubber hoses with coiled wires (like springs) wrapped around them. i recently replaced mine for about 20 bucks a piece. do archive search under "transmission cooler," for details. good luck.

The large cover that looks like a plug that uses a 12mm allen to remove is the cover for B2 reaction valve. Fairly simple repair that uses 2 o-rings & takes about 1/2 hour for MB tech to do.
