I have posted a couple times on this topic already, but there is not much of a response. I have a 99 E430 with the HID package. The driver's side is now very noticeable "dimmer" than the passenger's side. The dealer said that is a Mercedes problem, whatever that means. The dealer also said the technicans have some sort of MB internet discussion forums and received no response on the solution. Is this true that there is no service bulletin for this problem?

Thank you

As of now there is no repair for this concern. I personaly have seen several of these and have attempted repairs to no avial. I am sure that it is under investigation.

I am sure it's still under warranty, and why not let the dealer worry about it? If the problem keeps coming back, request the dealer to change the whole headlight assembly....keep bugging the dealer 'til the problem is solved...

You can try to wear the dealer down if you want, but it still doesn't change the fact that new bulbs, new complete headlight units, and directly wiring the unit outside of the normal wiring had no affect on the light color on the vehicles where attempted repairs were made. When it is a "Mercedes" problem this usually indicates engineering involvement.

I agree with RBM...
The problem is with the engineering of the system. I used to work for Philips Lighting on the HID systems for GM products and supplied bulbs to BOSCHE. Our biggest problems were with the ballasts and other electrical gremlins. The 'bulbs' are maufactured and tested to very strict quality control. It is very doubtful that the problem will be found in the bulbs.

If you are going to have the dealer go to work on the HID system, have them replace the ballasts and other electrical components first.... These are the only reason for poor light operation/output. My guess is the supplier of electrical components will provide your final solution, in engineering improvements.

Good Luck,
