engine underbody cover - existance ?
Hello Friends,
I´ve got an 1984 500 SEL and I think that the powertrain is a bit noisy when standing outside (especially the fan). There is nothing unusual with the noise so I dont beleive there is something wrong with the engine - its just that I think that a car of this magnitude should be quieter. Does anyone on this lisk know if there shoulde an underbody cover below the engine or not on this model or did that show up only on later models? Many thanks, Mikael Westerberg 1984 500 SEL Vanersborg, Sweden |

Hi Again,
I thought this was an easy questions for the forum (like no - it doesnt exist or Yes - it came with the 198X model). Anyone know if a cover was on these cars or has experience with fabricating one themselfs for a similar reason? Many thanks, Mikael Westerberg 1984 500 SEL Vanersborg, Sweden |

Sorry mikael.
I don't think anybody knows for sure. Try giving an MB dealer a call & see if they have one listed for your car. I don't think it would be too difficult to fabricate one, with some basic ingenuity, a bit of talent & a little luck.

check for mounting bolts
Mikael,
On my '87 there are supposed to be 2 I believe, 1 for the motor and 1 for the trans. My front one mounts with 4 bolts going into 4 spots on the cross-frames. Take a look and see if the mounting spots are there on yours. Chuck |

Many thanks for the ideas.
I think I will try and fabricate some sort of a cover to see how it works (hope it doesnt affect underhood temperatures though). Thanks again/ Mikael |
