Techron unavailable. Is STP fuel cleaner any good?

Techron is not available where I'm at.

I wanna do a double dose of fuel system cleaner to see if it will help my sick 190e.

STP fuel system cleaner is available here.

Is it any good - is the composition of the cleaner OK for the engine?

Advice appreciated.

Thanks, y'all.:)

Techron is usually available at MB and BMW dealerships. I expect you could get Techron from a full service Chevron station as well.

BTW, I just found out that all three American car makers use Chevron gas for their 50K and 100K emissions testing. Since Chevron isn't available in Michigan, the have it shipped in from Kentucky.

Hi Bud

It's kind of a lonnnnng drive to the nearest Chevron station from where I'm at.

You'll see why if you look at my location.:D

Looks like I'm gonna have to go with the STP Super Concentrated Fuel System Cleaner as it is one of the few known brands here.

The majority of cleaners here are supplied by Asian no-names (dangerous...).:p

Thanks, Bud.

Have you tried Redline fuel cleaner product? I think you can go to their web and order them directly. It works pretty good.

Azhari,
I should stop assuming that everybody lives in the US. Even so, don't be surprised if a local BMW or Mercedes dealer has Techron. BMW even used to package it under their brand name.

Hey Bud,

I see you're in Michigan also... what part of town are you in?

Following is from the Chevron Site:
Quote:

Where can I get TECHRON Concentrate or PRO-GARD?
Techron Concentrate and Pro-Gard are available in thousands of leading retail automotive outlets and discount stores across the country, including Target Stores, Walmart, K-Mart, Price-Costco, and leading automotive stores such as Pep Boys, Kragen, Schucks, Checkers, Advance Auto, Track Auto, along with a host of others. They are also available through authorized Chevron Lubrication Marketers

Willy,
I no longer live in Michigan (Shelby Township). I mentioned Michigan because that's where the Big Three do their testing with Chevron.

Can you get Lubro Moly products? Jectron and Ventil Sauber.

Guys

Alex mentioned Redline.I think I have seen this brand of cleaner around.

Is it just as good as Techron?

ericnguyen 08-21-2003 10:35 PM

Dear azhari:

STP or Valvoline Fuel System Cleaners are just as good as Chevron Techron or Chevron Techroline. I tried both of them before and they worked great.

STP and Valvoline are brand name companies in the US.
