tranny numbers?

I need to replace the pan and gasket on my transmission on my 86 Euro 500 SE and can't find the model no# on it. I bought the car as having the 119 500 engine only to find out that it has a 116 420 engine.(I like the 420 engine)
The transmission has a factoy first gear start swicth on the counsel. FastLane shows the 116 engine using two diffent pans 722 324 and 722 324
both use the same gasket the 119 560 engine uses still another pan but the same gasket. I have always had leaks no matter how many gaskets I put on so going to try a new pan if I can figure out witch one to order? Thanks.......

I think you mean M117 engine, not M119. Not that it was ever available in a W126 but the M119 was simulatneously available as a 4.2l and 5.0l.

Your best bet is to describe your car to Phil via the PartsShop link beside the FastLane link above. He'll sort it out for you.

The engine was replaced before I bought the car at a shop in CA and the papers show they put in the proper 500 Euro engine but in fact it' a 116 engine (dealer said it was Euro specs from the numbers) as I found out when I did a cover off timing chain on it last year.....the problem is I can't find the numbers on the transmission to order the right pan for it.....

The numbers are on the US passenger side of the transmission on a vertical surface just above the pan mating line.

I have some photos at http://photos.yahoo.com/tabijan in the 722tranny album. This is a tranny off an 81 300SD but I doubt yours is much different. You can just about read the numbers if the full size option is available to you. Doesn't everyone keep a junker tranny in the garage for photo ops?

And since I'm a stickler :p an 86 500SE should have an M117 not an M119 even if I know you have an M116 so it doesn't matter

Thanks a bunch Sixto! nice web site I'll bookmark it. You were right on both counts the car should have a 117, and found the numbers ,they were hard to see as cat converter was in the way. It is a 722 311 Euro transmission, engine is 116 965.....
