'93 190E Hard shift from 1st to 2nd gear
I am considering the purchase of a 1993 190e 2.3 special edition (the green ones). The speakers are shot and the engine idles a little rough but my main concern is a hard (both physical and audible) shift out of first gear. The car only has 24,000 miles and looks to be in great condition otherwise. I know these cars have a history of hard shifting, but is there anything that I should look for in particular?
Thanks

The firm shift could be as simple as an adjustment of the transmission bowden cable, could be low ATF (check when fully warn, say after 20 minutes of driving), could be a leak in the vacuum line going to the vacuum modulator on the side of the trans or the vacuum modulator itself. My bet is either low ATF or possibly in need of new ATF and a filter. Haasman
