I have an 85' 300D W124. I've just changed Radiator, T-stat, Water pump and Visco clutch fan. Aux Fan working in both low and high speeds (kicks in at 90 for High). My temp still goes up to 110 when in heavy traffic, before the visco fan change I would hit almost 120 - so there is an impovement. The only thing I have'nt done is flush my system and add 50/50 mix coolant. I am using ordinary tap water now.

We have no MB Citric acid solution here in the Philippines. Any substitute for that? I can get "citric acid powder" though from a chemical company but am afraid that this would not be the same one that MB has.

Are you SURE that you don't have a cracked cylinder head or a faulty head gasket.

Well Francis,

If you are sure (as Benzmac said) that your problem isn't due to head or gasket problems, you can also use regular dishwashing powder (Cascade). The type you pour into your dishwasher. I've used it before but obviously prefer the MB solution. You should only need a scoop full to flush the system with the detergent.

How would I know if I cracked a cylinder or faulty head gasket?

I car seems to be running smooth and fine. No water leaks. No traces of oil in my water.

Will go ahead an get MB coolant and Water wetter after I flush (dishwashing solutin). Hope this brings down my operating temp.
