Does a milage accumulator exist on a MB!!

Hello List,
Please tell me whether or not the following is true.

I have come across a 1992 600 SEL that is in immaculate condition with very low mileage (The car is in Europe).
As I was discussing with the owner that such mileage maybe due to a replaced odometer, he assured me it was not and that I can double check true mileage by taping into a mileage accumulator of some sort which resides somewhere in the vehicle!!

As far as I know, this is very hard to believe but still doable.

Does such a thing exist or is he BS'ing me.

Thank you all.

No real good idea what he's talking about, reeks of BS to me.
Here's one thing I do know though:
For quite some time (close to 10 years) the original style cluster hasn't been available for 129 and 140 chassis.
If this car has the old fashioned "reel" odometer (kind of like a LasVegas slot machine aka "one armed bandit", then I'd say the speedometer and mileage are original, or replaced very early in the life of the car. The speedo that is available now has the digital odometer, say like a calculator display.

The LATE cars have the Total Miles Stored in the EIS control unit

The 140 chassis never had DAS3, so they never had an EIS.

Kayooh,

If you are thinking about importing a MB from Europe you might want to ask around and check with the Federal Government. In 1983 I imported a 280slc and a BMW 3.0csi from Dubai. It cost me $4,000 each to get them converted and a lot of time. With all the computers, and electronic engine monitering stuff on these cars I would be real careful about seeing if a Euro model can be converted and what it will cost. You could be looking at a bill that makes the car too expensive to be resold when you want to sell it.
