driver's side door lock broken
 

Hi,
My car is a 94 C220 and the driver's side door lock does not work anymore. I can insert the key, but it would not turn right or left
at all. I tried forcing a little bit without success. I'm afraid to try harder.
If one lock needs to be replaced/fixed do all other locks need replacing aswell and get a new set of keys, or can they replace it with a lock that works with the old keys.
Any idea on the cost ?

The dealer can order new lock "tumbler" which matches the set of keys you have...However, the price will be high, $300+..
The other solution is to take the "tumbler" yourself, and find a car locksmith who will open the lock tumbler and fix it to work again with your keys, this could cost $50-$100 depending on what is wrong...
To take the tumbler out, you need to insert the key...there should be a screw on the side of the door that holds the tumbler, take it off, then if the key moves to the right or left it will be released with the tumbler, if not, you need to try moving the door lock nob up and down untill the tumbler released...
If you cannot take it out yourself, the locksmith should be able to do that,

Don't just change the tumbler yet.

Remove the door lock actuator and the rod that connects to it. It can just be a bad rod.

Yes, you need to check that actually the tumbler is defective before going through replacing/fixing it..There are many things could prevent the key from turning...
