Bizzare Elec. problem

94 E320 cabrio. have noticed recently that when I step on brake pedal, all the interior indicator/switch lighting starts to flicker.

read the posts on 'flicering lights', but none seemed to relate to brake pedal usage. otherwise, no indication of any problems.

anyone else have this problem?

You could have a bad earth in your rear light cluster. If the running lights are partly earthing through the brake circuit due to a bad earth, they would dim when you light up the brake lights as this will increase the resistance to earth.

Just a thought.

thanks. i also thought that may be the culprit. will chk. it.

Also check the wires in the rear trunk lid hinge for cross shorting
or being cracked. Do the third stop lamp bulbs work? If not, there
may be broken wires giving you grief.
Good luck.

I've had this symptom, too, for maybe a year. I posted here a couple times and never got any suggestions.

My theory is that the cable which links the brake pedal to the shifter lever is somehow the culprit. On mine, the brake-shifter interlock no longer works, too, which makes me suspect this. In other words, I can shift out of park without stepping on the brake. What about you?

no. i do not have any interlock problems. i suspect ground problem, but i also think it may be affecting ASR functions.
