Faulty Air Conditioner
 

I use An MB 320E 94, The AC stopped working the next day after use.We have confirmed that there is gas (R12) in the AC system the fuse is not blown and power (12v) does not come to the compressor the AC outlets expel`s normal air. PLEASE HELP ME

You should try to start the compressor with an electrical source. See if the compressor clicks on.

'94 models use R-134 not R-12. If R-12 is the system, that may be the problem!

AC problem/Make of car
 

The specified one was R12.Which was has been working untill this problem came up. Your response brings me to this other thing now my engine no is 10498012008210E100, and My chasis no is WDB1240311B215778 i don`t think this correct.

I see you have an unusual configuration compared to the vehicles that were marketed in the US. Your engine is probably fitted with a semi-independent ignition system commonly known as the EZL. If this is correct than your engine may have a distributor cap mounted to the front and is fitted with the KE-Jetronic fuel system, commonly known as CIS-E. I believe that engine configuration was last offered in the US on 1992 cars, mainly the 300-SL and 300-CE. I am also of the belief that your chassis number was not offered in the US.

I can only speak from my knowledge which applies to US vehicles and 1992 was a big year for several changes with MB in the US. One change was fitting A/C systems designed to operate with R-134a refrigerant. I have no knowledge of the engine and chassis configurations that are, or were available in Africa so your vehicle may have been fitted with R-12 from the factory.

Now let us explore what ails your A/C system. Behind the battery there are several control units/modules. Does your vehicle have a module called the MAS unit? It will have a knob on the top that rotates to lock it in place. Or does it have a KLIMA relay?


Once we establish which A/C compressor control system your vehicle is fitted with than collectively we can begin offering diagnostic suggestions.

A/C failure
 

Hi

I would begin by looking at the wiring at the compressor connection, the wires have a tendency to break at the sloder joints. Give a good tug on the wires, you'll know if they need to be repaired.

Use a jumper lead and jump the clutch with a direct voltage, should engage.

If the clutch engages, use a Multi-Meter and check the voltage output of the speed sensor. >300mV AC

Thank`s for the reply. I`ve looked at the wiring they are ok and i also used a jumper cable direct to the compressor and the clutch engaged. Like I mentioned from the first topic post there`s no output voltage from the compressor cables.

The other two leads on this connection are connected to a speed sensor that resides at the back of the A/9 assembly (compressor). When the compressor turns this sensor produces an AC voltage signal that is sent to the MAS unit telling it whether the compressor is Okee Dokee or if it is becoming Pokee! The generated signal should be >300 mV AC if not the sensor is weak. If the signal coming out is good than check to make sure it is getting to the MAS unit. If it is than you need to confirm that a few other signals are present at the MAS unit prior to investing in the replacement.
