Is this keyless entry any good?

Hello Board,

I was searching ebay for a keyless entry system to install in my 300E. Well this one on ebay looks really good and the the price is pretty good too. I'm not too caring for remote start I love the switchblade remotes though! Will this keyless entry work in my 87 300E?

If you're just looking for keyless entry, then look at the DEI 710T...

This is basically the kit that www.bergwerks.com sells, but they include all instructions and any extra parts your vehicle may need. Nice kit... I've done it.

Any keyless entry system will work as long as it can do AT LEAST 2 second car lock output... preferably 3 to be safe. You could even buy a system that has remote start as well so that you can install that part later... or one with Keyless/remote start and alarm.

Check to see if it comes with a "door lock module" . Regardless, a couple of relays will work

See:

About the unit you mentioned... ask them where the heck you are going to get that blank key cut. I have never been able to find ANYONE who would cut my blank keys for me.

cutting keys

I was just wondering how you will be cutting the keys in this kit?

I know that I was not able to find anyone to cut me a benz key other then the dealer and they do it on their blanks only as far as I know.

Here are the "instructions" the seller e-mailed me. Are they any good??? Will an installation shop be able to understand these directions?

Dang, if you're even WONDERING if your shop is going to have problems understanding THOSE instructions... you'd better find another shop.

I've seen many horrific keyless entry installations done on 124's, 126's, and 201's. One involved installing a door lock motor at the driver's door to physically push up the lock knob. The installer probably realized that this set off the alarm if the door was locked with the key and opened with the remote, so they conveniently unplugged the alarm module.

My best advice to you is to wire the thing yourself. Lots of shops half a$$ their work and you never notice until some fuse mysteriously keeps blowing or you smell smoke from somewhere.

Crimp well, use wire (zip) ties, and remember that heatshrink tubing is better than electrical tape 99.999% of the time.

The seller is in UAE (United Arab Emirates)? The alarm is pretty common in the South East Asia market, particularly Thailand, Saudi, Indonesia, etc. Try doing a search for "Samisen" and you will find the Taiwan company that makes these.

So the question remains: Where are you going to get the metal key blade cut?
