W140 washer level indicator
 

After three months, the S420 is starting to show its W140 heritage. Wife mentions that the washer fluid light is on. Pour in MB washer fluid concentrate and a bunch of water. Indicator beside the radiator isn't rising. Tap, tap, tap. Starts to rise... starts to fall. And my foot's getting wet! Turns out the indicator pipette is cracked in a couple of places and the hose from the washer tank to the indicator is brittle. It's easy enough to work on through the tow hook port in the bumper.

I capped the nipple for the indicator and I'll price a new inidicator. But with the dash warning that obviously works, I wonder how much I should spend on a replacement indicator?

I'm unsure if the indicator is even available anymore, I think the official fix now is to block it off and forget about it.

Yup, in haste I purhased a new one (still available at $20 something) aftter replacing it I came to the same conclusion. Cap the fitting, or plug the hose which is easier. The light will still come on when empty.

Right. I didn't think they were available at all anymore. Seems they can't find a "clear" plastic which can stand up to the solvent. They should just use an opaque plastic like the washer tank is made out of instead of a clear plastic (you'd still be able to make out the float in the tube I would think). Either that or make them out of glass. If you get in an accident, they stuff they currently make them out of breaks anyways.
