tranny slipping??

Whenever I am accelerating hard and it downshifts from 4th to third and then back to 4th, it does not "hit" like it does in other gears. From 1-2, 2-3 it gives a nice little hit when shifting, and also from 3-4 when under light throttle. But when I'm on it, and it goes into 4th it kinda eases in. I don't know if this is slipping or flaring or nothing at all. I know about the B2 piston problem in these 126 trannies, and wondering if mine may be on its way out. 170,000 miles in case you're wondering.

Sounds just like my old 123 car. It's getting tired and the valvebody is also probaly carboned up pretty bad. You can install the accumulator kit but, its nothing more than a band-aid. It sounds like its telling you its about time for a overhaul.

Thanks Joe. Just how far "on the blink" do you estimate my tranny is? Do you think that if the valve body is cleaned/replaced and the B2 piston is replaced that that would do anything?

I'm a college student and I can't exactly afford a new tranny right now!! I hope I can just baby it and it'll last me 2 more years!

Ok, so pop in the accumulator kit and service it. I babied a .3 in a 124 wagon past 200k this way. Cleaning the valve body is not a bad idea but, make damn sure you have the work instructions on hand to get the check balls back in right along with the spings and such between the halves.
