Question E300 Windshield Replacement Questions

OK. I looked up WIS and see that they have their own adhesive for replacing glass. Has anyone used it yet? Or what is the difference between it and the expensive stuff that the glass people say they have to use?

Use the expensive stuff, the windshield is part of the body strength on later cars, and the cheap adhesive is likely to be black and sticky rather than the high strength stuff MB requires.

It will also allow the windshield to slip around and leak, BTDT on my old Dodge Aries.

The MB one needs some sort of special dispenser that no one seems to have. I suppose I will get the one from the glass shop that will use the low conductivity stuff that is expensive and stick it. Is that going to be alright?

We've never had a problem letting the glass companies use their own adhesives.

Ah, but you see, if you go to Auto Glass Specialities and Klien Dickert they are all different. AGS has to use 2 tubes at $150 apiece. KD is about 140 for the both tubes. SafeTLite says that the special adhesives are not necessary? Who is right and who is taking me for a ride?

We used primarily AGS and never had a problem, I'd go with them. If AGS and KD are both aware of special adhesive requirements, I would rate that as a positive that they know MB calls for high grade adhesives. I am not even aware of the third co. you mentioned, I'd stay away, even thought it's cheaper and sure it "may" be fine, a windshield is a heck of a thing to later have problems with, kind of like a paint job, or major engine work, BIG hassle.
