Is there a common link RR window & sunroof?

My '87 300TD has an occassional glitch with what appears to be both the RR window and the sunroof. I just received my CD and can not yet tell from the schematic if there is a point where these two systems converge. If I am reading it correctly, both motors reverse direction and body/earth grounds change with the current flow directed by the switches. ???

My sunroof is about 1/2 open now and the window is closed. Attempting to activate either switch does not produce an electrical load. The other interesting quirk is that an hour or possibly sometime tomorrow both will work again (for awhile).

Help please.

No connection between then except that it sounds as if the brushes are worn out on both motors and making intermittant contact, or that the switches are bad.

If the console switch for the rear window is bad, the door switch won't work either, there is no connection through the switch. New one are something like $18, and you are going to need one someday anyway. All the same.

The switch for the sunroof could be bad, too -- eventually it will fail and you will have to wind it shut by hand (motor is behind the cover in the left rear).

I've also heard of wires coming unscrewed in the fuse box, for that matter. Would affect left front/right rear window, though (on one fuse).

Thanks for the response. I was just about to add to my own thread when I saw you had replied. As you accurately stated, there is no connection between the two issues. I removed, cleaned and adjusted the RR window rocker switch at the console and so far it works. This is the second time I serviced it and will replace it next time (maybe, though it's an easy job to service). The sunroof may be a different story. I had located the motor and relay so that part was easy. After pulling the relay, I took it apart because I was curious. Other than the small circuit board and three windings looked like lots of relays. In order to get the roof to close, I had one of my sons operate the switch while I tapped on the motor. It worked easily after doing that. Not certain what that will lead to but I do know I don't like the price of replacements. Are these serviceable motors?
Thanks again.
Steve

PS Do most MB owners enjoy working on these as much as I do (lots)? Terrible to admit but I recently ordered parts from our FastLane and can't wait for them to arrive so that I can do more!
