Simple question-W126, Fuel pump relay-where?
My 1989 300SE needs to have some fuel related parts replaced.
These include the Fuel pump relay, switch over relay and fuel pump/filter. The latter is a no brainer. The relays' position, I am not too sure of. Behind the firewall and in line with the air filter (ie behind that general area) are two black relay boxes. One is for KLIMA and the other is part number 002 545 92 05. I suspect the latter to be the fuel pump relay. Please correct me. Where is the swirch over relay? Also, to remove the relays, does one just pull up and remove or is there a bracket to loosen???? Thanks Denis

Denis:
I looked up part # 002 545 92 05 at an MB web parts site. According to that site, this part is a fuel pump relay. I noticed here at PartsShop, by just keying in 002 545 you will see more than one fuel pump relay and the 3rd set of numbers in the part number vary..ie..yours is 92. PartsShop shows no 002 545 92 05, but other variations of 002 545 xx 05.

Hi Denis,
here is a picture of mine on a 87 420 SEL, so it should be like yours. On the longer sides, there is a small increase in thickness at the base, that kind of makes the withdraw somewhat hard. You move it back and forth and pull upwards. Before installing, I lubed the contacts with dielectric grease to make it easier in the future. After I greased mine, it also woked again properly. Good luck Reinhard Kreutzer |

Denis,
the picture actually shows the AC relay out, so I had better access to the fuel pump relay next to it, but they are simply plugged in the same way. Reinhard Kreutzer |

my pics
Reinhard, thanks for the pics. I pulled out both relays now and opened up the fuel pump relay.
here are three pics. I inspected the whole relay and internal contacts on the switch. Everything is clean and all solder points are good. No oxidation or hairline cracks etc. So, I am assuming that my relay is good. I will re-sheath it ans close with silicone glue for sealing. The contacts-prongs are clean also. All resistors and caps look good. ANY POSSIBLE HIDDEN DEFECTS IN A RELAY? So, thanks you for your instruction and for all oters, here is an archive of the interior of this relay. Next is to replace the fuel filter and hope that the fuel pump is OK. A previous opinion was to replace all parts as per the dealer diagnosis. Maybe I will go part by part. Some people have told me that they had many more miles on an original fuel pump than I do. This was posted on my original thread. Thanks again.

Do a little diagnostic work before you start replacing parts. Check to see if you are getting power to the fuel pump when the key is switched to the run position. This requires a helper as the power is applied for only a few seconds without an ignition signal input.

Look at the thumbnail in post #5 above; the fuel pump relay is the one in the picture that has the number 002 545 xx xx on the top. Yours is in the same location. |
