what type of problem if any could a disconnected EHA cause on my 85' 190E?

Does anybody know what the color coding is for that connector?

Is your car running "normally"?

In our cars, with the EHA (electricals) disconnected, the car can still run mechanically well.

You would probably notice difficult starts when cold coz with the EHA disconnected you lose cold start enrichment.

actually I have been dealing with the cold start problem since I've had this car (last year around this time). It also has always had a high idle problem as well.

In the mornings, here in Canada's west coast ........ it get's pretty nippy so I find I have to start the car a few times before it would maintain an idle and when it does it's usually pretty high.

Mechanically, it's OK I guess ...... she runs but I would like to start off with the two mentioned problems.

I don't know what the connector looks like for the EHA connection and I don't see it around the engine bay so I'm assuming that it has been tampered with in the past.

Any other ideas?

It was probably disconnected to address another issue that could not be solved, or it could of been a interim solution to determine if a problem was mechanical in nature or electrical in nature.

I would assume the harness would be somewhere close as there is not much slack in that particular harness.

The car will also most likely hesitate unless it is set to run rich. The high idle and cold starts are definately a result of the unplugged EHA, but once you plug it back in, you might see a whole new set of problems, most probably related to a bad O2 or fried OVP.

I think the high idle is probably an indication the OVP is functional. The engine control module is adjusting idle speed to compensate for over-enrichment. Removing the OVP or its fuse could verify that. Mixture is probably set rich to allow it to start at all when cold.

Could be the EHA is shorted, and was disconnected instead of replaced. Still, all items can and should be tested, replaced as necessary, before diagnosis can continue. The EHA plug appears to be missing in the photo, but it is hard to believe it was cut off unless the wires fried. Maybe it is twisted back and hidden at the moment. In our 190E, it runs from the harness that lies right parallel and next to the cam cover.
