oil leaks 300SL
Opinions please! After having my 300SL serviced, the mechanic advised me the head gasket, front timing cover, rear main seal, and valve cover are all leaking. The car has 53,000 miles and is driven 2 to 3k per year. Averaged 5000 per year the first ten years.
Does all this make sense? Or should I sense someone is looking for business? Assuming they are leaking, which are the most critical to replace. The quote was $2500 for all the work. Is this reasonable. I'm in Ohio. Thanks, Jim

Oil leaks
Unfortunately for most MB vehicles owners that drive an M104 engine they will, at some point, invest in replacing a cylinder head gasket. Some owners wind up doing this at low mileage, sorry that it is the nature of this engine. Shop owners, mechanics, and technicians did not design the engine but they wind up baring a the brunt of a vehicle owners disappointment from the products lack luster longevity.
