special tool for spark plugs?
I have an 87 300e. Do I need a special tool to remove the wires from my spark plugs? I tried firmly pulling on them but feared damaging the wires. When I consulted the manual it said I need a special tool. Is this true?

You can do it by hand. Twist the terminals on the plug before you pull. If they're really stuck, you can use any pliers designed to pull plug wires. The kind grips in a cylinder is better than the kind that grips in a circle. You should be able to find something at an auto parts store.

My plug wires were WELDED to the spark plug. No amount of pulling was ever going to pull them off.. Fortunatly, the tips on the plugs would unscrew. So, I unscrewed them, with the tip still in the plug boot, removed the plug, put the plug in a vise, screwed it back on, and hammered it off with a piece of wood as a buffer.. Even in the vise.. They were still VERY difficult to remove..
I use anti-seize on the tips of mine now, and remove them occasionally, just to be sure I still can..

Gotta love that design!! Mine ends were so brittle that some of them cracked as I was removing them. This was before I learned that the end alone can be replaced. It's also when I learned that MB wires cost over a hundred bucks!!!

careful!!
i had trouble removing my first wire-and then i broke off the top.yikes!!i found the best way to do them was to twist the holder back and forth a little and then i used a wrench and leveraged them up slowly.the next seven were a piece of cake!now, how do i go about getting that first one out?hmmmm.....any ideas?
