Noisy door - "Broken door stop"?

My passenger door makes three or four loud "clonking" noises when I open it.
I assume it is the "door stop".
Is it easy to replace? Does the whole ddor panel have to come out to change or repir it?
cheers,
Sab.

It's called a check strap and yes, the door cover needs to be removed for this operation. There's a page on this web site that illustrates this procedure:

W124 check strap replacement

It's a common problem on W124's. I had to repair the check strap on mine last year. It wasn't easy to repair. Most people just order a new one ($35?) from Fastlane.

W107 door panel comes off like a W123 panel, do a search for instructions.

Get a new check, the old one is probably busted beyond reasonable repair.

however, you may want to take a look at the mounting bolts -- if they are just loose, that may fix the problem.

Thanks for the help.
The link for the check strap replacement is not coming up, is it a typo or is the site dead?
regards,
Sebastian.

I couldn't get the page to come up either, but that was the url for it. Another way - just as easy - is to go to the top of the page, Click on D.I.Y., and look for the link.
