SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR THIS YEAR I HAVE HAD A ROUGH IDLE OR MISS ONCE THE CAR HAS WARMED UP AND THE RPM DROPS TO 500. (96,000 MILES)
SYMPTOMS: -LIGHT TO HEAVY SHAKE AT STOPS
-OCCASIONAL SHUTOFF OF THE ENGINE (AT STOPS)

WHAT HAS BEEN DONE:-90,000 MILE SERVICE (MBZ)
- REPLACE PLUGS, IGNITION LEADS, FUEL INJECTORS, FUEL FILTER, DISTRIBUTER CAP AND ROTOR, GENERAL MAINTENANCE.
SOME WORK HAS BEEN DONE BY THE DEALER AND SOME (CAP, ROTOR, INJECTORS) BY MYSELF. WHAT IS NEXT.. I NEED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND CANT SEEM TO FIND A SERVICE SHOP I TRUST. MY TECHNICAL COMPETENCE LEVEL IS LIMITED ON THIS CAR BUT I WILL GLADLY FOLLOW STRONG ADVICE / PROCEDURES.
THANKYOU.

There is an ilde mod that has been done to many of the Mercedes that I have worked on. I do know that it was printed, but I don't know if it was a TSB or an internal repair for the dealers.

The mod will allow for the idle to remain at 750 when the engine is in gear. Now it drops by 100 when in gear.

THANKYOU FOR THE REPLY.
WOULD INCREASING THE RPM WITH THIS MOD GET RID OF THE PROBLEM OR JUST HIDE THE PROBLEM. IT IS NOT ROUGH AT HIGH RPM BUT I FEAR THIS PROBLEM IS JUST MASKED AT THIS POINT.

I HEAR THAT MY THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR MAY NEED TO BE ADJUSTED? DO YOU THINK THERE IS ANY VALUE IN THIS? HOW WOULD I GET IT DONE?

THANKS.

JULIAN.

IS THE IDLE THAT BAD THAT YOU NEED TO SHOUT JUST TO BE HEARD? NO? WELL MAYBE YOUR CAPS LOCK IS STUCK ON!

Anyway... seriously.... my 300CE had the same problem, and I changed the motor mounts, and the cleaned the electrical contacts for every compter, relay, fuse, sesnsor, ground lead etc.

Totally cured the problem, and I got an increase of about 2-3mpg.
