603 Bowden Cable Broken....
 

I've noticed that the Bowden cable on my 1987 300D Turbo is broken... or at least the little white twist end of it. Actually, it is split right in the middle of the threaded portion. Is this unit replaceable up in the engine compartment or do I need to replace the entire cable assembly? Can it be glued with anything? Is this a DIY job or better left to the professionals? Finally, what causes this adjustment knob to break?

bowden cable is a generic term - like 'wire'...

On my 300D, it is the little white knob that twists up near the IP. Mine is broken right on the little portion that is threaded. I was hoping it can be repaired or whether I will need to replace the entire unit.

Marcb, I would have to agree, once it begins to come apart, there is no real fix, exept to replace it. I know it as a kick down cable for down shifting the tranny. To replace, you must drain trans and remove pan. The cable enters the tranny on the right side and has a small metal end on it that fits into a wheel track that turns. When you get it apart, and turn the small wheel towards the right, you will see how it is attached, remove old one. and pull through the top of the tranny, watch for dirt, best to clean the whole area before you start. steve
