My '87 190D has a/c problems: compressor quits after about a minute of operation. Question is, how do I tell if my tensioner has failed to keep the serp belt tight? I suspect mine is the cause of comp/ cut out because PO had a used tensioner installed (blue and yellow paint dabs on it). What are the signs/tolerances indicating weak tensioner? Thanks!

You have a 602 engine I guess. I would check the spring and the damper. Also check your belt if there are any cracks. Be sure to check the arm where the tensioner is bolted to that there is no play at all. Hope this helps! Francis ------------------ 85' 300D Euro 87' 250D Euro 77' 300D Euro Manila, Philippines |
