300E 3rd brake lite question
I need to remove my 3rd brake light to replace the loose sealing strip against the glass (see photo). In reading other posts recently someone said that to remove the rear cover you should gently squeeze the sides and pull toward the front of the car. However, looking at the cover (and you can see it in the photo) there is a tab on each side that looks like it needs to be pulled out rather than pushed in.
Can anyone verify the proper removal technique? (And if I should manage to break it, any idea what new ones are worth?) After I remove the cover, will the means to remove the rest of the lamp housing be obvious? Thanks, Gary |

For my car, about $75 if you break both plastic halves of the housing. So I'd suggest waiting until somebody knowledgeable responds about removing it.
A new gasket is $5. I wouldn't mind replacing mine too if it turns out to be easy... mine is sun faded.

Remove the forward portion of the third-brake light by expanding the little tabs on left and right sides. Gently here. .. ...
You will be able to slide the light assembly off its pedestal that is mounted to the rear deck cover and change the rubber gasket or whatever you need to do. Haasman
