Broken window operator rivots
The front passenger side window of my 96 e320 quit working so I removed the door panel and found that the rivots that hold the operator in place were in the bottom of the door. There is also a tab on the operator that appears to be bent as well. I am recovering from neck surgery so I can't position my head to really look up inside and see if anything wrong. Is anyone familiar with this sort of problem? I was planning on bending the tab to what I think is straight and installing new pop rivots.Does anyone know what else I should look for.

Just try to operate it while the panel is off and watch the operation. May be a little more cumbersome but you could try using bolts/screws and locknuts in place of the missing rivets.
Hope your neck gets better quick and welcome aboard. |
Thanks
I bolted it in place and used locktite. I noticed that one of the arms was bent a little, so I straightened and all seems ok.
I am not sure what caused the arm to bend. I bought this car 2 months ago and noticed that someone had previously taken the door panel off before because of the shoddy vapor barrier installation. I also cleaned and lubed the tracks which seemed to help. It now runs faster. I just hope that there wasn't anything else that I didn't see. |
