hydraulic rear shock

This subject might have been on the table before.
But for me it is very important.
1.) If one hydraulic shock start leaking, do I have to replace both at the same time and if so, why? I spoke to two maintenance garage's. One said replace both, but the other told me just the leaking one. He has done that before and that client has no problem with his car.
2.) What if I change the Hydraulic system with a standard shock system? (Eichbach-Boge) Who is driving a 560 SEC with a standard shock system and what are your experience?
Thank you,

Hydraulic rear shock

Ronny,
Always better to change shocks in pairs. It keeps the car balanced correctly.
I have a 600 SEL and couldn't get original shocks for it so I changed to gas. I now find that the standard springs are too soft so I must change these also. I dont mind doing the work myself so cost is really only down to parts. If however you are going to get a garage to do it then best to stay with hydraulics I think.
Dave.
