1990 300 4 matic questions

Hi,
I am looking at a 1990 4 matic for sale tomorrow. Can anyone give me an idea what to look for in potential trouble areas? How does the mercedes awd hold up? I have owned a mercedes unimog and loved it but it was too slow for me. I was thinking this would be a great winter vehicle for me. Thanks in advance for any reviews or help on this car,
Joe

Do a quick search on 4matic AND W124, grab some popcorn cause you'll be in front of the monitor reading for a while.

If you do that search I mentioned above read the 'Which is better Quattro or 4Matic' thread. I'd copy it into this message but I am computer challenged. You should have enough info to make a desicion after reading that one.

The price of the car has dropped to $2500 due to owner moving soon. With this low price and the car seemingly in good running shape would it be a good purchase? Is maintenance on problem areas perpetual or are they mostly one time fixes? If I planned on $1000 per year in maintenance as one previous poster did would that make sense? Maybe I am just trying to talk myself into buying this car for the sake of owning an awd mercedes. Maybe an older G is the way to go. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.
